They are giant cucumbers. They were planted about a month and a half ago in the garden of the house of António Macedo, 65, in Santiago de Antas, Vila Nova de Famalicão, and they continue to grow. There are about 40 fruits hanging from a rope, the largest measuring over 1.80 meters and weighing at least 10 kilos. It was the brother who sent you the seeds from Canada. The backyard is now a place of pilgrimage.

“This is very beautiful. Here is a show that must be taken care of. Nobody has bigger cucumbers than mine. I am very proud. It is even nice to see this here,” he told the CM António Macedo, owners of the fruits. “The neighbors are always here to see and photograph the cucumbers. Everyone is happy to look. There are people who come purposely to see them. People are surprised by my cucumbers. Even at night they come here. They all tell me they never saw cucumbers from this dimension, ”said the man, who also owns a restaurant in the parish.

It is not the first time that ‘Senhor Macedo’ has grown cucumbers. “My brother sent me the seeds of America in the mail after winning prizes there. Two years ago I had already planted them but they were not so beautiful. But they could have grown more if he had planted them earlier. They could have grown more. I have no doubt that they would reach three or four meters, ”he said.

Some of the cucumbers have already been eaten. “Only the small ones! The big ones are already very hard and can no longer be eaten. But this costs so much work. I have to water them twice a day to make them so beautiful and colorful. I really like my cucumbers,” he assumed.
