The 127 counties of “extremely high” and “very high” risk due to the number of cases of covid-19 will be prohibited from circulating on public roads for the next two weekends and the holidays of December 1 and 8, to starting at 1 pm.

The announcement was made this Saturday by the President of the Government, António Costa, at a press conference to announce the new measures to combat the increase in the number of infections by covid-19, agreed in the Council of Ministers on Friday.

According to the risk map, Portugal was divided into four risk levels: “extremely high”, “very high”, “high” and “moderate”.

In the 47 municipalities that are at “very high” risk, for having more than 960 cases of disease per 100 thousand inhabitants, and in the 80 that are at “very high” risk, for presenting more than 480 new cases per 100 thousand inhabitants in the last 14 days, it was decreed the prohibition of circulating on public roads and the closure of commercial establishments between 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. on the next two weekends and on public holidays of December 1 and 8.

On the eve of a holiday, November 30 and December 7, commercial establishments will also be closed starting at 3 p.m. in these 127 counties.

In addition to these measures, these 127 municipalities are also subject to the measures already in force and that remain for the 86 “high risk” municipalities – with more than 240 and up to 480 cases per 100 thousand inhabitants – such as the prohibition of circulating on public roads between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. on weekdays.

The closing hours of commercial establishments are also maintained at 10 p.m., and of restaurants and cultural facilities at 10:30 p.m.

According to António Costa, in all these municipalities there will still be mandatory telework compliance inspections.

There are 65 municipalities at “moderate” risk, with less than 240 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 14 days, which are governed by the measures issued for the entire continental territory.

Thus, in addition to the measures promulgated specifically for “extremely high”, “very high” and high risk municipalities, the Government has also promulgated measures to be applied throughout the continent.

Thus, the entire continental territory will be prohibited from circulating between municipalities between 11 p.m. on November 27 and 5 a.m. on December 2, and between 11 p.m. on December 4 and 5 a.m. December 9.

This prohibition of circulation between municipalities occurs on the weekends that the “bridges” of the festivities of December 1 and 8 are taken.

The Government also decreed for the continent tolerance of time and suspension of teaching activities on November 30 and December 7 and also requested the dismissal of private sector workers on those same days.

It was also decreed mandatory use of a mask in the workplace in continental territory.

All measures will be implemented with the renewal of the state of emergency, which occurs at midnight on Tuesday (November 24).
