Nineteen banks control 12.1 million customers

In total, 19 of the 26 banks authorized by the BNA control 12,193,903 (twelve million, one hundred ninety-three thousand nine hundred and three) clients, according to the statistics for the first quarter.

The Savings and Credit Bank (BPC) with 2,949,961 clients is the largest, followed by the banks Fomento Angola (BFA) and Millennium Atlântico (BMA) with 2,068,716 and 1,687,469 bank account holders. In the top 6 of the banks with more than a million clients, there is also the International Credit (BIC), with 1,566,045; Angolan Investment Bank (BAI), with 1,154,253 and the Sol that controls 1,121,562.

The following is a list of 13 other commercial banks with less weight in the client portfolio. They all control less than a million. In this group, the leader is the Bank of Commerce and Industry (BCI) with a client base of 589,208.

The International Business Bank (BNI) with 266,584 and Keve with 210,953 close the first 3 “of a second league”. This classification also includes the banks Economico (156,277), BAIMicro Finanças (141,665), Standard Bank Angola (97,376), Caixa de Angola (52,617), Comercial Angolano (51,980), Finibanco (44,829), Yetu (15,635), Comercial do Huambo (15,214), Crédito do Sul (2,723) and Prestige (836) controlled clients.

There are a number of banks that, by their nature and purpose, are not directly engaged in attracting individual customers, but rather to companies, such as Standard Chartered Bank Angola, Bank of China Limited – Luanda Branch, VTB Africa. Its client portfolio, whether companies or individuals, are not included in the control published by BNA. Data from operators Kwanza Invest and Banco de Investimento Rural (BIR) are also missing. Publicly owned BDA is dedicated to development.

Complaints

The BNA also recorded, on its website, the registration of a total of 615 complaints, representing an increase of 178.28 percent, compared to the same period last year. In that period, consumers of financial products and services filed a total of 221 complaints.

In January, the highest number of complaints was registered (243), 39.5 percent of the total volume. Despite the growth registered in the first quarter, the number of complaints is still very incipient, representing 0.005 percent, in a universe of 12,213,791 accounts.

The most reported matters are related to transfers and demand deposits (improper transactions, expenses and commissions, among others), which represent about 57 percent of the total complaints filed by users in the banking sector. In numerical terms, each of those services registered 193 and 158 complaints. ATMs and TPAs ​​(50), overseas transactions (31), debit cards (29), currency transactions (26), and accounts payable (21) are also among those with a minimum of 20 records.
