New phase of modernization of the water network in São Roque begins this Monday

Next Monday, May 4, the second phase of work to replace the fiber cement water distribution network will begin in the parish of São Roque (Funchal), the municipality announced today.

The Mayor of Funchal (CMF), Miguel Silva Gouveia, visited the project this Thursday (April 30), which covers the Caminho do Lombo do Jamboeiro, Caminho da Azinhaga and Caminho da Penteada. The intervention, which began last March, includes more than 2 km of network and is estimated at 566 thousand euros.

The second phase, which will take place between the Alamos roundabout and the Estrada da Universidade, is expected to take five months to complete.

“The intervention will be carried out in sections of about 50 meters in length, from north to south and guaranteeing road access to the homes. Despite the conditions that will exist, road traffic will continue in both directions, “explains the Chamber.

Miguel Silva Gouveia points out that, “despite the limitations that affect us all at this time, CMF continues to work on the ground, carrying out fundamental work for the well-being and future of the people of Funchal, continuing the structural work that has been made in recent years. years in terms of modernization of the water networks in the municipality ”.

“At the end of the year, all the fiber cement pipes that still exist in the municipality will be replaced and we will begin a historic investment in the control and monitoring of leaks in the water networks, associated with the existing remote management system,” highlights the mayor. .

“The old fiber cement pipes were one of the main problems in the city, since they are the focus of ruptures,” says Miguel Silva Gouveia, highlighting the advantages “in economic and service efficiency terms” of modernizing Águas do Funchal.
