The president of PSD, Rui Rio, justified on Thursday the vote in favor of BE’s proposal that prevented new capital injections for Novo Banco, after the approval of OE2021 in Parliament. Rui Rio said that a transfer for this amount cannot happen for free and that when the Government wants to do it “it will have to be with a Rectifying Budget.”

“I voted in line with what I always said and what I always said is that any transfer made to Novo Banco, we must have explanations about the reasons and the fairness of this delivery of money,” the PSD leader began arguing. “Preferably”, he added, “these explanations should be accompanied by the independent audit being carried out by the Court of Auditors.”

Rui Rio also left a question for journalists: “Are you sure that the contract with Novo Banco is being fulfilled? On the part of the State, the contract must be fulfilled; it is necessary to know if Novo Banco is also complying. Are we sure these cheap sales have no losses there? “, I ask.

The president of the PSD considered that it is time to say “enough” due to the fact that the Portuguese are paying Novo Banco. “I hear from commentators on television who have been saying for years that this was unacceptable and now they wanted us to make these transfers possible.”

António Costa regretted this Thursday that “the parties have defected or have not resisted the populist temptation to approve measures that could undermine international credibility.” The measure that stops the transfer of 476 million to Novo Banco was approved by PSD, BE, PCP, PEV and Joacine Katar Moreira, with the abstention of CDS and PAN and the votes against by PS, IL, Chega and Cristina Rodrigues.
