Nacional accuses Sporting of copying Ronaldo’s name to the quarry

Nacional criticized Sporting on Monday after the lions announced their intention to change the name of the Alcochete academy to “Academia Cristiano Ronaldo.”

In a statement, the emblem that is returning to the League assures that its own academy is called “Cristiano Ronaldo Campus Futebol” since November 2007, and therefore this decision of the lions violates the fundamental principle of trademark registration, since it provokes a “confusion of names”.

Nacional even sent a letter to the president of Sporting, Frederico Varandas, to explain the situation. Now read the full letter:

“Dear Mr. President,

To our great amazement we learn that Sporting Clube de Portugal intends to change the name of the Academy.

As you know and the public knows, the Clube Desportivo Nacional appointed its Academy “Cristiano Ronaldo Campus Futebol” in November 2007, for which we express our dissatisfaction and total disagreement.

In fact, our position is based on the fundamental principle of trademark registration, as they can be confused, which should be avoided, and therefore we express our utter displeasure and discontent.

Without another topic for the moment, I subscribe to you with my best wishes,

The chairman of the board
of the National Sports Club »
