This Wednesday, Portugal registered another 7,497 cases of covid-19, a number explained by a “delay in laboratory notification.” There are 59 more deaths, the highest number since the beginning of the pandemic.

So far, the highest number of daily cases since the start of the pandemic was 4,656, registered on October 30, with 7497 infected counted until midnight represent a new false registration. This is due to the fact that the number includes “the sum of 3,570 cases, due to the delay in the notification of laboratories, mainly from a laboratory in the North region, since October 30”, emphasizes the General Directorate of Health in the bulletin of today, which amounts to 156,940 the total number of infected – 65,300 of which active (5081 more than yesterday).

More than five thousand cases in the North

The North continues to be the region with the highest number of cases, with 5183 new infections (a total of 72,875), represents 69% of total recent accumulated infections. They are followed by Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, with 1560 (in 63,250), and the Centro region, with 518 (13,860). The Alentejo has 120 new infections (3,031) and the Algarve another 81 (3,031). In the Madeira archipelago there are 26 more (504), and in the Azores another nine (388).

Three victims were under 59 years old

It is also in the North where 34 of the 59 deaths from covid-19 are registered – the highest number of deaths since the start of the pandemic. In Lisbon and the Tagus Valley 18 people died, in Centro five and in Alentejo two. Thirty-seven of the victims (20 women and 17 men) were 80 years or older, the age group most affected by mortality from the disease: 804 men and 1006 women of these ages have died. Fourteen victims (eight men and six women) were between 70 and 79 years old and five men between 60 and 69. Two men died in the 50-59 age group and one in the 40-49 age group.

In terms of hospitalized patients, there are now less 12 in the ward (2,337 in total), plus five more in intensive care units (325 in total – new record). On the other hand, there are more than 2357 recovered, bringing the total number of cured patients to 88,946.
