More than half of the Portuguese aged 80 years or older received the first dose of the vaccine – O Jornal Economico

There are already 341,034 people in Portugal who have received the two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine, according to the weekly vaccination report of the General Directorate of Health (DGS) published this Tuesday. Of those more than 340,000 vaccinated citizens, 46,033 received the dose in the last week. In total, 827,902 thousand Portuguese received the first dose of the drug.

Among the Portuguese population vaccinated –both with the first dose of the vaccine (8%) and with the complete vaccination (3%) – are the oldest, 80 years and over, who stand out: 349,269 (53%) and 104,011 (16%), respectively.

Regarding regions, Alentejo continues to stand out, since it is the area where the percentage of the population vaccinated with two doses (6%) or only one (13%) is higher. In the case of the first dose only, the Center region is just below, with 12%, and then North and Algarve, both with 8%.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, Portugal has counted 814,897 confirmed cases of Covid-19. In the last 24 hours, 384 new infections were registered, according to the epidemiological bulletin of the General Health Directorate (DGS) released this afternoon. The number of deaths from the new coronavirus in the country rose to 16,707, after 13 more people died from the disease.

DGS reveals that there are currently 328,693 cases registered in the North (127 more), 116,305 in the Center (64 more), 308,718 in Lisbon and Vale do Tejo (147 more), 20,337 in the Algarve (13 more), 3,899 cases in the Autonomous Region of Azores (15 more), 8,173 in the Autonomous Region of Madeira (11 more) and 28,772 cases in Alentejo (seven more).
