More than half of the municipalities of Paraná are experiencing a dengue epidemic, says the secretary | Parana

According to the State Health Department (Sesa), more than half of the 399 municipalities of Paraná are in a state of dengue epidemic. The weekly newsletter of the disease was published on Tuesday (5). According to Sesa, 223 cities (55.8%) have a proportionally higher incidence than 300 autochthonous cases, contracted locally, for every 100,000 inhabitants.

This week, Paranaguá, Santa Lúcia, Santa Tereza do Oeste, Campina da Lagoa, Kaloré, Sertanópolis and Lviv reached the level of an epidemic. Most epidemic cities are located in the west, north, and northwest.

Another 24 municipalities are on alert for the epidemic. In 70 cities, severe cases of dengue were reported.

Overall state figures indicate that Paraná has been in a dengue epidemic since early March of this year. 157,400 cases of the disease have been confirmed since the end of July last year, when monitoring of this period began.

Since the previous week, the number of confirmed cases has increased by 10.78%, with 15,320 new registrations. The weekly update also confirms 11 dengue deaths that were under investigation, totaling 122 deaths, according to the bulletin.

“The data is worrying and the state government remains alert and vigilant, supporting actions to combat and control dengue. But we have to count on the support of the population, so as not to forget the attention, even in this period when we are dealing with the coronavirus, ”says the Secretary of Health, Beto Preto.

According to Sesa, of the 11 deaths confirmed this week, three are from people who lived in Londrina: a 93-year-old woman with diabetes; a 55-year-old woman, without associated comorbidity, and a 24-year-old woman, also without comorbidity.

Two deaths are from Medianeira residents (a 91-year-old woman without comorbidity and an 89-year-old man with diabetes and high blood pressure). Check out other counties that had a confirmed death this week:

  • Foz do Iguaçu (57-year-old woman with sequelae of stroke)
  • Cianorte (74-year-old man with various associated diseases)
  • Maringá (29-year-old man without associated diseases)
  • Alvorada do Sul (72-year-old man with hypertension)
  • Florestópolis (76-year-old man with hypertension)
  • Quatro Pontes (85-year-old woman with diabetes).
