More than four thousand infected and a record hospitalized with covid-19

This Saturday, Portugal registers 4007 cases and 39 deaths from covid-19. The number of hospitalized patients, both in the infirmary and in intensive care units, is the highest since the start of the pandemic.

A total of 4,007 infected with the new virus were counted compared to Friday, according to today’s epidemiological bulletin, bringing the total number of cases since March to 141,279. Of these, 58,492 correspond to active patients, of which 1,137 were registered until midnight. With more than 2,831 recoveries, the total recovered amounts to 80,280. On the other hand, the number of hospitalized patients has never been higher: 1972 patients are hospitalized (45 more than yesterday) and 286 in intensive care units (11 more). The values ​​exceed those of yesterday, which were, until then, the highest since the start of the pandemic. Friday was even the worst day in terms of new cases and deaths.

About 47% of new infections (1900) were in the north, where 63,327 cases have already been reported. It is followed by Lisbon and the Tagus Valley, with 1406 new infections, at 59,343, and then the Center region, where there are 552 more cases, at 12,287. The Alentejo represents 61 more cases (in 2734) and the Algarve 80 more (in 2779). The Madeira archipelago has five more infected, with a total of 440, and in the Azores there are three more cases, in 369.

30 of the victims were at least 80 years old

They died in Portugal 39 other people (one less than yesterday), bringing the total number of deaths from covid-19 to 2507 (1287 men and 1220 women). The North is also the region where the most deaths were recorded, 23. In Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, there were twelve, in the Center two, in the Alentejo one, and also in the Algarve. As has become the rule, the vast majority of the victims (30) were 80 years or older: 17 men and 13 women. Between 70 and 79 years old, five people died (three men and two women), as well as three men and one woman in the age group 60 to 69 years.

Monitored by the health authorities, there are 64,514 citizens, 791 less than yesterday.
