The test will distinguish the new coronavirus from other respiratory infections, such as influenza
Also this Friday it was known that Portugal will have a diagnostic test that will allow “differentiating the new coronavirus from other types of seasonal respiratory infections”, such as the flu, helping doctors to make more precise diagnoses, revealed this Friday. the medical director of Unilabs, the company that will make the tests available.
“The idea was to try to have a diagnostic tool that, at the same time, would allow us to differentiate whether or not it is covid-19 and, if not, which virus is causing this clinical picture,” said António Maia Gonçalves.
Speaking to Lusa, the medical director of Unilabs Portugal explained that the tool emerged as part of a collaboration with a South Korean laboratory.
This “diagnostic weapon”, which will be available “in the next 10 days”, will thus allow, through a single sample through the nasopharyngeal swab, to know if it is SARS-CoV-2 or other respiratory pathologies.
The test, carried out with a medical prescription, can be carried out in the same places as the covid-19 tests, in ‘drive thru’ or in some units of the company. Results will be available 24 to 36 hours after this test is done.
