More than 884 cases and eight deaths from covid-19 in Portugal

Eight people have died from covid-19 in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of deaths to 1944. With another 884 cases, 72,939 infections with the new coronavirus have been diagnosed since March.

Portugal adds 1,944 deaths from covid-19 since the start of the pandemic, on March 2, after registering, this Saturday, eight more fatalities from the disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. According to the daily bulletin of the Directorate General of Health, in the last 24 hours more 884 positive cases were registered, bringing the total to 72,939.

The number of recovered patients amounted to 47,380, that is, this Saturday 377 more were registered, currently there are 23,615 active cases, more than 499 the day before.

Of the eight fatalities, six were registered in the Lisbon region and the Tagus Valley, one resided in the North and the other in the Center. The COVID-19 patients who died in the last 24 hours were seven women, two between 60 and 69 and five over 80, and one man, also over 80 years old.

New cases also had more weight in Lisbon, with 472 more patients, followed by the North with 292 more, the Center with 62 more, the Alentejo with 20 more, the Algarve with 30 new patients, the Azores with five more and Madeira with three new cases.

The number of hospitalized patients fell compared to yesterday, there are less nine people hospitalized (615 in total) and also one less patient in intensive care (85).

The covid-19 pandemic has killed more than 990,000 people and infected more than 32.5 million worldwide since December, according to the latest AFP agency report based on official data.

The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected in late December in Wuhan, a city in central China.
