In Portugal, in the last 24 hours, six more people died and 780 more cases of covid-19 were confirmed (a growth of 1.2% compared to the previous day). The region with the highest number of infected in the last 24 hours is again Lisbon and the Tagus Valley, which added 426 new infections (54.6% of the daily total), in addition to the six deaths registered the previous day. .
It is followed by the North (250 more cases), the Center (46 more), the Alentejo (36 more), the Algarve (20 more) and Madeira (two more).
There are ten more new cases this Friday than yesterday, when 770 more infections were reported. Which makes it necessary to go back to April 10 to find a day in which more new cases have been confirmed. At the time, it was 1516.
After the “continuous increase” of cases during the past month, the prime minister called this morning an emergency meeting of the covid-19 crisis office in São Bento. On leaving, António Costa warned the Portuguese that “If this trend continues, we will reach a thousand new cases per day, probably next week” and that it depends on each person to counteract the risk of contagion as much as possible, always following health regulations.
“Now it depends on the responsibility of each one of us,” said the prime minister, arguing that “We cannot stop the country again like we did in March”. “The personal cost of the confinement was brutal and we cannot go through this again,” he added.
Less 15 hospitalizations
465 patients were hospitalized, that is, 15 less than the day before. There are now 57 people in intensive care, two less than the day before.
Today’s DGS bulletin also indicates that health authorities are monitoring 38,721 contacts of infected people (917 more than yesterday).
2.8% fatality rate
The country’s overall fatality rate is now 2.82%, rising to 14.23% for people over 70, the main fatalities.
The fatalities in the last 24 hours are four men and two women. There were three people over the age of 80, one between 60 and 69, another between 50 and 59 and another man between 40 and 49.
30.3 million cases worldwide
The new coronavirus has infected more than 30.3 million people around the world as of this Friday and has caused 951 132 deaths, according to official data. Now there are 22 million recovered.

In terms of deaths, after the United States, Brazil is the nation with the most reported deaths (135,031). Then India (84 404) and Mexico (72 179).
On Thursday, the World Health Organization’s regional director for Europe, Hans Kluge, said there were 300,000 new cases on the continent over the past week, more than the first pandemic peak in March.
