The controversy in Denmark over the slaughter of millions of minks, led to the resignation of Mogens Jenses, until then Minister of Agriculture and Food. The order, considered illegal, was aimed at slaughtering millions of minks due to a coronavirus mutation found in the organisms of these animals, according to “EFE.”
The mutation that was identified in mink could negatively affect the effectiveness of future vaccines against Covid-19 and is therefore considered a matter of global importance. As a consequence, the Danish government ordered the slaughter of 15 million minks. To gain legal approval for the measure, the Danish government undertook legal reform to allow for the order.
The legal order generated controversy and led Mogens Jensen to resign this Wednesday, November 18. Jensen justified the decision stating that “it is clear that it is absolutely necessary for me to have the confidence of the parliamentary parties to exercise my office, and I believe that I no longer have the necessary support. Therefore, I feel that I must present my resignation ”.
The announcement came shortly before the publication of three internal communications from the authorities. The first shows “clearly” that the Ministry of Food made a “mistake”, for which Jensen again apologized.
