A military plane that crossed the sound barrier caused, this Wednesday, the fear that an explosion had taken place in Paris, since the noise was heard in much of the French capital and surroundings.
The Paris police quickly clarified on the social network Twitter that it was not an explosion.
“This is a fighter who has crossed the sound barrier. Do not invade the emergency lines,” police posted on Twitter at 12:10 (11:10 in mainland Portugal), shortly after the incident.
The army specified that it was a Rafale fighter from the Saint-Dizier air base, located about 250 kilometers from Paris.
In a brief written statement to the media, the army indicated that the fighter intervened to “offer assistance to an aircraft with which radio contact had been lost.”
Rafale was allowed to break the sound barrier, which occurred during “get to the plane in difficulty“, specifically in the east of Paris.
Internet users on Twitter expressed their surprise at what they heard and fear of a possible attack.
The noise of the fighter reached the Roland Garros tennis tournament, which takes place in the west of the capital, in the middle of a match between the German Dominik Koepfer and the Swiss Stan Wawrinka.
