The mayor of Paços de Ferreira, in the Porto district, said Wednesday that he hopes the government will abandon the idea of implementing “more emasculating measures” in the municipality that would compromise economic activity.

“We do not want a purge in Paços de Ferreira. This is a municipality of responsible people, so much so that the number of cases has been reducing even before the state of emergency is implemented,” said the mayor, Humberto Brito.

Speaking to journalists, after meeting with various businessmen in the restoration of the city, Humberto Brito said that he already conveyed to the Government that he is “against new restrictive measures that endanger the economic activity” of the municipality.

“It is not because we have many infected that more castration measures must be taken that impose more impositions and that harm a municipality that has a very strong economic activity,” he said.

The mayor also called on the Government to open the field hospital, located in the old facilities of the Hospital da Santa Casa da Misericórdia, which the municipality made available to guarantee assistance to citizens infected by the new coronavirus or in situation vulnerability.

“This is a public health problem, what we have to face is the issue of people’s health, that is, that hospitals have an answer for patients who need it and that the National Health System can work with all the conditions ”, he emphasized. .

After the meeting with the different entrepreneurs in the catering sector, Humberto Brito assured that the municipality will make “rapid tests” available to all those who work in the sector, and also has a team to accompany the entrepreneurs to benefit from the measurements. announced by the Government.

“It is not in the restoration that the problem exists, this is not where the focus is (…). I do not want there to be more bankruptcies or closures. If in fact it is necessary to reverse these measures, they must be reversed,” he stressed.

This Wednesday, around 50 entrepreneurs from the restaurant sector joined in a silent demonstration in Paços de Ferreira, which culminated at the door of the City Hall.

To Lusa, Nelson Carvalho, representative of the restoration businessmen, said that the intention was to show “dissatisfaction” with the measures decreed by the Government.

“We totally disagree with our Government, with the laws it imposed. Once again, the restoration area is one of the most affected. It does not seem fair to us,” he said, adding that the demonstration also aimed to “clean up the image of Paços de Ferreira “. before the country. “

“At this moment, the image is showing that Paços de Ferreira is an unconscious municipality and that is not true,” he said.

In the early hours of Sunday, after the Council of Ministers, Prime Minister António Costa said that the municipality of Paços de Ferreiro is the most serious case for registering an incidence rate of more than four thousand cases per 100 thousand inhabitants.

“It is objectively very different from a municipality that has 240 (cases per 100,000 inhabitants in 14 days) and, therefore, it is most likely that we will have to adopt more differentiated measures for these municipalities that have very high incidence rates than others. “said the CEO.
