On Wednesday, November 28, the maximum number of patients with Covid-19 hospitalized in intensive care units (ICU) in Portugal must be exceeded, reaching 271. In the next week, specifically on November 4, the number will also be reached. maximum number of people admitted to the infirmary: 2,634 (444 in ICU), according to calculations of the National Institute of Health Doutor Ricardo Jorge, the General Directorate of Health (DGS) and the Higher Technical Institute.

The Minister of Health explained this Monday that, in the week of October 12 to 18 (two weeks ago), the maximums of new daily cases of contagion were exceeded in almost all age groups. “As in most European countries, the transmission is occurring at a worrying level. The seven-day incidence rate is now 187.4 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants and the 14-day incidence rate is 323 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants ”, said Marta Temido at a press conference on the capacity of the NHS to respond to the pandemic.

The minister also revealed that the average value of the transferability index (Rt) in the last five days – October 17 to 21 – was 1.21. “In the last 14 days, Portugal registered a cumulative rate of 23 deaths from Covid-19 per million inhabitants,” he added, in statements to journalists.

“There is no time to lose and it is necessary for each one to do what is in their power to stop the transmission of the infection” – Marta Temido
