Maximum deaths on the third consecutive day with more than 10,000 cases

A day after Portugal reached the highest number of covid-19 cases since the beginning of the pandemic, another 10,663 infections are registered today. The number of deaths reaches a new record: 159.

On this first day of the new confinement, Portugal reached a new maximum number of deaths from covid-19: in 24 hours, 159 people died with covid-19. The previous record had been recorded on Wednesday (156 victims). In total, since the beginning of the pandemic, 8543 people died with the new coronavirus in Portugal.

Almost 69% of the victims (109) were 80 years or older. Thirty-three were between 70 and 79, thirteen between 60 and 69, three were in the 50-59 age group, and one person died at age 40. Most of the deaths (65) were recorded in Lisbon and the Tagus Valley. In the north 35 patients died, in the Center 34, in the Alentejo 15 and in the Algarve 10.

Third day above 10,000 cases

It is the third consecutive day with more than 10,000 new infected. After 10,286 infections on Wednesday and 10,698 on Thursday, this Friday, other 10663 infections – a small reduction compared to yesterday. The total number of infections since March is now 528,469. If the high daily values ​​are maintained, the experts’ prediction that the country will reach 14,000 infections in one day can be confirmed. On the other hand, 6,458 people recovered from the disease (394 065 not total).

Lisbon and the Tagus Valley add 4,280 more patients, once again exceeding the number of daily infections in the North (more than 3,295), which for several months ranked first in terms of infections in a single day. The Central region has more than 2,041 new cases, the Alentejo has 577 and the Algarve 328. Madeira has 93 more and the Azores have 49 more infected.

OR the number of hospitalizations also follows the increasing trend: there are now 192 more patients admitted to the ward (out of 4,560) and 11 in intensive care units (out of 622).
