Master of Science students protested the ″ brutal ″ increase in tuition fees

Students consider that the increase in tuition fees was “brutal” and “without any disclosure to students.”

Questioned by JN, the official source of the University of Porto guaranteed that the tuition fees for 2020/2021 were publicly announced “as soon as the applications were opened, last January, with their publication on the website and system of internal FCUP information. “

“The change in the value of the master’s fees by FCUP, which had not been updated for several years, was based on the need to monitor the rising costs of conducting these courses, in order to qualify for maintain and improve the material conditions and, consequently, the quality of education offered by FCUP in these study cycles ”, reads a response sent to JN.

Also according to the same source, of the 34 masters of that faculty, only five did not suffer a change in value, standing between 871 euros and 1250 euros in annual enrollment.

There were 23 master’s degrees that had an annual increase of 50 euros, reaching 1,300 euros in enrollment, and another six masters that registered a higher increase, of 180 euros or 375 euros, setting the enrollment at 1,430 euros and 1625 euros per year.
