Asked by journalist Vítor Gonçalves if “on the table is the possibility of closing schools immediately”, the Minister of Health answered “yes”.

According to Marta Temido, today’s meeting with experts brought “some changes” to the previous estimates, which “will force new reflections on the measures to be taken” to control the covid-19 pandemic.

“These measures, which were agreed today among some ministers as possible, will be discussed tomorrow in the Council of Ministers and then will be transmitted by the prime minister to the Portuguese,” said Marta Temido.

Portugal today registered 219 deaths related to covid-19 and 14,647 new cases of infection by the new coronavirus, the highest values ​​since the start of the pandemic, according to the General Directorate of Health (DGS).

The bulletin also reveals that 5,493 people are hospitalized, 202 more than on Tuesday, of which 681 are in intensive care units, that is, 11 more, two values ​​that also represent new highs of the pandemic phase.

The number of hospitalizations has been on the rise since January 1, when 2,806 people were hospitalized.
