northAt the end of a visit to a nursing home in the Algarve, the President of the Republic commented on the evolution of pandemic of the new coronavirus In Portugal. “As you know, we continue to have a stress-free situation, in terms of hospitalizations and intensive care, and a low number of Deceased“, he began by mentioning.

However, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa acknowledges that the number of cases has been increasing and admits “that today’s number is worrying.” It is recalled that 673 new cases were reported this Sunday.

“It’s worrying because it’s the weekend, it used to be lower. And well, more than 600 cases, without compromising control over the response of the SNS, which, however, is not good news for a weekend. We will see how the evolution will be ”, he expressed.

Marcelo warns, however, that the new measures promulgated by the Government will only begin to apply from the 15th of September and that it can only be analyzed if they produce effects.

“I have a theory which is that they only take effect if people help. There is no digital machine in a position to apply sanctions if they are not complied with. Each case is different, people produce thousands of gestures throughout the day, so it is impossible to be behind everyone ”, he said, warning that “Or people, with balance, create conditions at a time that is difficult in Europe and in the world to minimize costs, or if it is not a problem, because the measures are not very effective“.

The hope of the President of the Republic is that the new measures will be effective, so that there is no risk of “going from 600 to 700, from 700 to 800”.

As of Tuesday, Continental Portugal will enter into a contingency situation, to control the pandemic, with the implementation of preventive measures, considering the period of return to school and work. Review the measures that go into effect here.
