The President of the Republic praised Auchan today, at the inauguration of its new headquarters in Portugal, and has called for investment in the current context of the covid-19 pandemic, arguing that “the best time to invest is East”.

In his speech at the opening ceremony of the new Auchan Retail Portugal headquarters, in Paço de Arcos, in the municipality of Oeiras, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa affirmed that “the millions that will arrive – so they will arrive sooner rather than later – from Brussels They will only be worth it if, in addition to the role of the State, there is the role of civil society, investors ”.

“That they continue to invest, that they realize that the best time to invest is now, it is not late, too late,” he asked them, adding: “Great investment decisions are made in the most complex and difficult moments, and they are those, those who anticipate events, who are more successful. They are not those who are in tow, when it is obvious that it is necessary to invest, they are delayed “.

In his opinion, “the millions that come from Brussels will also be useless if the country is no longer the same, if there is less poverty, if there is less inequality, if there is no greater social cohesion”, because “there will be some who will benefit, but not everyone “.

Regarding Auchan Retail, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa praised its “confidence, enthusiasm and determination for the future” and considered that this French distribution group “fulfills its mission”, in Portugal, “on the one hand, investing, on the other. , modernizing and, thirdly, showing social responsibility ”.

“It is legitimate to appeal to those like Auchan to continue setting an example of investment, modernization, responsibility, social cohesion,” he reinforced.

This inauguration ceremony was also attended by the Minister of State, Economy and Digital Transition, Pedro Siza Vieira, and the Mayor of Oeiras, Isaltino Morais.

According to the company, this new headquarters, built from scratch, with an area of ​​7,500 square meters, which replaces the previous facilities in Alcântara, in the municipality of Lisbon, “reinforces the commitment” of the French retail group Auchan in Portugal and will host ” 500 fixed jobs and more than 100 flexible jobs ”.
