The Portuguese Union of Nurses (SEP) announced that it will continue to demand the payment of retroactive payments to those professionals at the Braga Hospital who had been receiving less than what they owed for 14 months.

“Even in this matter of the most elementary justice, the Government cannot go beyond applause and words of recognition,” criticized the SEP in a statement.

These are the contracts for adhesion to collective bargaining agreements (ACT), celebrated on Thursday 14 months after the transfer of the management of the Hospital de Braga from the Mello Saúde Group to the public sphere.

“During these 14 months, 168 nurses, despite having a salary of 1,060 euros, continued to carry out their functions with competence, responsibility and ethics and integrating new colleagues to earn the base salary of the nursing career: 1,205 euros,” he says. the Union.

On Thursday, the president of the Board of Directors of the hospital, João Porfírio Oliveira, said that no retroactive payments will be made, preferring to emphasize that the salary updates derived from joining the ACT will take place in November, the month in which the Christmas subsidy is paid. .

“It is, therefore, doubly important to sign ACT membership now,” he said.

For the SEP, joining the ACT is “a victory” for professionals and the National Health Service and a “colossal defeat” for the Government, in particular for the Ministries of Health and Finance, “which, with its inefficiency, continue to discredit the Public Administration, politics and politicians “

“It is a case of saying that Simplex did not reach the Ministries of Health and Finance, at least when the objective is to harmonize the working conditions of nurses. And no one is responsible, ”concludes the union.
