The first cruise ship that will dock in Funchal, after the start of the pandemic, is scheduled for Saturday and passengers who want to disembark must present a negative test for covid-19 or take it upon arrival, the regional government reported today.

“The strategy will be similar to that of the airport,” said the Secretary of Health, Pedro Ramos, on the sidelines of the presentation of two capsules for the transport of people with infectious diseases in the Regional Civil Protection Service of Funchal.

And he reinforced: “In addition, in the case of the cruise, all passengers must have a negative test upon departure to be able to board. Then, depending on the duration of the cruise to reach the region, we will see if there is a need to do a test” . the arrival.”

The Regional Government, of the PSD / CDS-PP coalition, determined that all passengers disembarked at the ports and airports of Madeira present a negative PCR test carried out up to 72 hours before the start of the trip, or otherwise they must do it at the arrival.

The measure has been in force since July 1 and the executive has already invested 10 million euros in tests.

“Whoever wants to disembark in Funchal will be put to the test,” said the secretary, highlighting that the measure applies even if the ship – the ‘SeaDream I’, with about 100 passengers – stays in port for a shorter period than necessary to get the result. of the test, which is 12 hours.

According to the Institute of Health Administration (IASAÚDE), the Madeira archipelago currently registers 103 active cases of covid-19, of which 95 were identified in the context of surveillance activities implemented at the Madeira airport and eight are locally transmitted .
