A 36-year-old man was caught falsifying a purchase he had just made at the IKEA store in Marshopping, in Matosinhos, and has already been convicted. The client decided to buy two armchairs that together totaled € 458. However, the defendant decided to paste two pillow barcodes with a value of € 5 each on both articles, writes “Correio da Manhã”.

After changing the barcodes and the counterfeiting that occurred in the middle of the store, the man went to the automatic checkout counter, the place where the customer has to register the products he wants to buy.

The barcode reader read the codes on the two cushions, which are now glued to the two seats, and ended up paying just € 10 instead of € 458 of the original value set by the store for that product. Although the payment was completed successfully, the man, who works as an auto mechanic, was unable to leave due to the safety of the space.

After being captured, the mechanic was tried in Matosinhos and the sentence imposed forced him to pay a fine of 2,240 euros for the crime of forgery and computer fraud, the same newspaper reported. In addition, he was also ordered to pay compensation of € 500 to IKEA for moral damages.

The woman, who will have accompanied him during the crime, will have been acquitted.
