Man dies after being stabbed in the back by the Arroios market in Lisbon | Lisbon

A 29-year-old man died Wednesday after being stabbed in the back next to the Arroios market in Lisbon, following a disagreement, the PSP news agency told Lusa.

According to the Lisbon Metropolitan Command (Cometlis), the stabbing occurred on Rua Ângela Pinto, at 10:54 am, and death was declared inside a cafe, where the victim went to ask for help.

“It was a disagreement between two individuals that involved a knife, one of which was stabbed in the back area,” said a Cometlis source.

Still collecting information on the case, the PSP said the suspect was arrested on Avenida Almirante Reis after an escape attempt.

According to police forces, the suspect is 45 years old and, at the time of his arrest, he was not in possession of the weapon. “So far, the whereabouts of the object are unknown,” the PSP said.

To Lusa, a police source added that the Judicial Police (PJ) has already been prosecuted for being a crime of homicide.

At around 2:34 pm, the crime scene was preserved by police forces and with security tapes.

“The Judicial Police were there to carry out the investigation work. I do not know if the body was removed or not, I know that colleagues [PSP] they’re still there, ”the Cometlis source said at 4 pm.

The investigation of the crime is now in charge of the PJ.
