Man dies after being “in trouble” while diving in the Azores

The victim was 70 years old and, according to authorities, “certified as a recreational diving instructor.”

A man died this Thursday, after having been “in difficulties” while diving off the islet of Praia, on the island of Graciosa, in the Azores.

In a statement, the Maritime Authority noted that the man, who was 70 years old, was “qualified as a recreational diving instructor.”

The victim practiced the activity at a depth of about 20 meters and, according to the authorities, the victim was rescued alive by two people who were accompanying him aboard a boat, in which he had traveled to the place.

The Maritime Police of Angra do Heroísmo “took care of the incident in the place”, and in the rescue operation an ambulance was activated, which carried out the transport to the hospital where death was declared.
