Man arrested in Porto for disobedience to the duty of confinement by Covid-19 – Portugal

A 48-year-old man, businessman and resident of Porto, was detained by the PSP for disobedience to the obligation of mandatory confinement at home decreed by the Public Health Authority due to covid-19, the Police reported this Thursday.

In a statement, the Oporto Metropolitan Command of the PSP clarifies that the arrest occurred after a complaint that the man “was walking on public roads, in disobedience to the obligation of compulsory confinement at home, decreed by the Public Health Authority “.

The detainee was circulating on Wednesday at 4:30 pm on Rua do Monte Cativo, in Porto, when he was detained by personnel from the Cedofeita Police Station of the 1st Police Division, adds the PSP.

The PSP asks everyone to comply with “the rules to prevent the spread of the covid-19 infection” and ensures that it will continue, on a daily basis, to carry out inspection and advisory actions in terms of protection against infection.

The covid-19 pandemic has already claimed more than one million ninety-three thousand deaths and more than 38.5 million cases of contagion worldwide, according to a report prepared by the French agency AFP.

In Portugal 2,117 people died due to 91,193 confirmed cases of infection, according to the most recent bulletin from the General Health Directorate.

Continental Portugal entered at 00:00 hours this Thursday in a situation of calamity due to the increase in the number of covid-19 cases, with new restrictive rules to stop the spread of the pandemic.

After a month in a contingency situation, the alert level in the mainland of Portugal has risen to calamity and will remain at least until October 31, when the Government will carry out a reassessment.

Portugal reached the highest number of daily covid-19 cases since the start of the covid-19 pandemic on Wednesday, with a total of 2,072.
