Rui Moreira again criticized TAP and its position in relation to the city of Porto. After the controversy this week over the statements of the Minister of Infrastructure in Parliament, the mayor of Porto is now criticizing the airline in an opinion article published in Expresso, entitled: “It is difficult to like those who leave us.”

“If the strategic interest is only to promote Lisbon, then concentrate the operation in the capital but make proportional funds available to the North, the Algarve, Madeira and the Azores, which will certainly not have difficulties to find other engines and other air operators that will bet on his recovery ”, wrote the mayor on the pages of the Expresso.

“I know that some will continue to say that if TAP does not offer service to Porto it is because it is not a good business. They said it when it was semi-private and they will continue to say it now. Interestingly, what is bad business for TAP seems to be good business for Lufthansa, a flagship company that today transports more passengers to and from Porto than TAP and does not cost our treasury a penny.
public ”, according to Rui Rio.

The new controversy started this week when Parliament’s Infrastructure Minister said that four routes from Porto were causing damage to TAP.

“After taking a stronger position in the company, even before the deal was closed [compra da participação de David Neeleman pelo Estado português] Four routes were opened in Porto: Amsterdam, Milan, Zurich and Ponta Delgada. On these four routes we have an average of 46% of the capacity. They were created in response to a challenge that was launched and are currently a loss for TAP, ”said Pedro Nuno Santos.

Following the minister’s statements, the mayor of Porto reacted on Friday. “Apparently, it is the four routes from Porto that are hurting TAP. The Lisbon routes will pay off. If it is the four routes from Porto that cause losses, stop them. But please incorporate TAP into Carris or the very profitable Soflusa. We don’t care, we will find a solution, ”Rui Moreira said on social media.

A day later, the infrastructure minister came to correct the shot and said that there are more routes from TAP to cause losses, not just those from Porto. “Currently, TAP is losing money on practically all routes, including those made from the Humberto Delgado airport in Lisbon. This is, as you can see, the scenario in practically the entire aviation sector, ”said the Ministry of Infrastructure on Friday.

According to the guardianship, there are currently “11 routes operated by TAP from Porto and that, although practically all companies are strongly reducing their operations in winter, TAP will maintain 10 routes in Porto. In other words, only one less than in summer, which shows the great commitment of the public airline with the region ”.

Pedro Nuno Santos says that the routes from Porto are not the only ones that are damaging TAP. Invicta gets 10 routes in winter
