The PSD of Loures condemned the celebration of the PCP Congress, which will take place in this municipality of the Lisbon district, considering the decision “reckless, reckless and negligent, putting all Lourens at risk”, in the context of the pandemic.

“Therefore, the realization of this event deserves, on the part of the PSD, a deep feeling of disgust and the need to act firmly in its denunciation and signaling,” said the president of the PSD of Loures, Nelson Batista, expressing “astonishment and incredulity “relatively the decision of the PCP to maintain the celebration of its congress, between the 27 and the 29 of November, in the municipality of Loures.

Accusing the mayor of Loures, Bernardino Soares (PCP), of having “an irresponsible attitude” by stating that “the state of emergency does not suspend political activities,” the social democrat Nelson Batista said that the state of emergency due to the Covid-19 , in force from November 4 to November 23, “does not foresee political events.”

Therefore, we understand, also taking into account the information and opinions of the General Directorate of Health (DGS) and the World Health Organization (WHO), that the holding of this event represents, unfortunately, a profound lack of respect and contempt for the Louren and, on a large scale, for all Portuguese “, declared the president of PSD de Loures,” strongly condemning “the holding of the PCP Congress.

Recalling that Loures is included in the list of municipalities with a high risk of contagion from covid-19, in which restrictive measures such as curfews are applied, Nelson Batista described the communists’ decision as “reckless, reckless and negligent”, at a time when the number of infections and deaths from covid-19, in which emergencies end in several hospitals and “where the shortage of health professionals is evident and puts the National Health Service in an even weaker state “.

“The interests of the PSD party will never be above the need to combat this pandemic,” the social democrat reinforced, referring that the welfare and health of the population are a pressing concern for PSD Loures.

The President of the Republic considered this Saturday “desirable” that the Congress of the PCP be held in accordance with the rules of the state of emergency, despite the law that safeguards political meetings.

The XXI National Congress of the PCP, from November 27 to 29, in Loures, will have half the delegates, about 600, compared to the 2016 meeting, due to the pandemic, a party source said on Wednesday.

In response to questions from the Lusa agency, the communists’ press office said that the congress, “given the circumstances, will have a smaller participation of delegates (around 50%), without the presence of national and foreign guests.”

The PCP also guaranteed “health protection” conditions for all participants.
