The name of the American poet Louise Glück was announced by the Swedish Academy this Thursday at noon as the 2020 Nobel Prize in Literature, in a ceremony broadcast online from Stockholm. The jury chose her for “her unmistakable poetic voice that with austere beauty universalizes individual existence.”
Lucky louise was born in New York in 1943 and debuted in 1968 with Firstborn. SAccording to the Swedish Academy, she was soon hailed as one of the most outstanding poets in contemporary American literature. One of his poems “Olmos”, from the book The first four books of poems : “All day I tried to distinguish / need from desire. In 2015, the poet received the National Medal of Humanities from President Barack Obama.

Glück is the author of several books of poetry, including, most recently, Faithful and virtuous night (2014), winner of the National Book Award, and Poems 1962-2012 (2012), which won the Los Angeles Times Book Prize.
