List that chose André Ventura was illegal – Executive Digest

The list that Chega presented in the 2019 legislatures, headed by André Ventura, was considered illegal because it did not meet the parity criteria, the magazine said on Saturday.

According to the same publication, the list contained three male names followed in places 24, 25 and 26, they are: Armando Sérgio Soares de Assunção, Mário Filipe França Santos and Pedro Witt Caeiro, a situation that does not obey the established law, in which a 50% participation must be respected for each gender.

In situations like this the consequence may mean that all the names proposed by the party are rejected, however the judge did not realize the illegality. It was a citizen who warned and notified the Ministry of Internal Administration (MAI), the body that published the document, realizing the law that “no more than two candidates of the same sex can be placed consecutively in the order of the list,” according to ‘Saturday’.

The same magazine reveals that, after the contact, the general secretary of the MAI referred the matter to the National Electoral Commission (CNE), which in turn, recognizes that the breach of the principle of parity means “the rejection of the entire list.” However, it stresses that the lists were validated by a judge, without answering whether or not the party will have the necessary sanctions.
