The Lisbon region and the Tagus Valley once again registered the highest number of new cases of Covid-19 in Portugal. In the last 24 hours, there were three deaths and 388 new cases.

According to the figures given in the epidemiological bulletin of the General Health Directorate (DGS) this Tuesday, of the 388 new infections, 225 occurred in Lisbon and the Tagus Valley, which represents 58% of all new cases. Since last Saturday, not so many cases were registered in this region: on September 5, 230 more new infections were registered.

This Monday, the North had registered 53% of the cases. Today, however, it represents 119 more cases, that is, 30.7%.

Thus, Portugal has 60,895 confirmed cases of Covid-19 and 1,846 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic. The DGS bulletin also indicates 15,903 active cases of Covid-19, 255 more than this Monday. Also, since Saturday, there were not as many active cases, there were 264 that day. A number that has been increasing in the last 24 days.

According to DGS data, the age group 30-39 years now accounts for the majority of infection cases, surpassing that of 40-49 years. This Tuesday, 9,988 infections were registered in people between 30 and 39 years old -more 53 cases in the last 24 hours- and 9,981 between 40 and 49 years old -52 cases more than on Monday.

According to this Tuesday’s bulletin, there are 394 people hospitalized for Covid-19 in Portugal, 13 more cases than this Monday. Of these cases of hospitalization, there are 50 in Intensive Care Units (ICU), plus one case in the last 24 hours.

In the last 48 hours, there were 40 more hospitalizations and in the last five days, 60 more. Since the end of June, the number of hospitalized patients has not grown so much in two days: on June 28 and 29 there were 47 hospitalizations, 16 and 31, respectively..

43,146 people have recovered from Covid-19 since the pandemic began. In the last 24 hours, 130 more cases of recovery were registered. There are also 130 more people under surveillance, for a total of 34,466.

In addition to the 225 more cases in the Lisbon and Vale do Tejo region and 119 cases in the North in the last 24 hours, in the Center region there were 26 more cases, in Alentejo another 11 and in Algarve 3. The Azores also have 3 more cases and Madeira plus one.

On seven of the eight days in September, Madeira added at least one more case of infection. 47% of the total cases in this region (173) were registered as of July 1., when the peak of the pandemic had passed. The Azores and the Algarve account for 12 more cases of Covid-19 in the last three days alone.

Of the three deaths, two were registered in the north and one in Lisbon and Vale do Tejo. The fatal victims are two men, one over 80 and another between 70 and 79, and a woman over 80.

The North is the region that has counted the most deaths since the beginning of the pandemic: 851, followed by Lisbon and Tagus Valley with 687.
