An Australian infected with covid-19 lied to detection teams saying that he only went to get a pizza at a restaurant where an outbreak was discovered, but in reality the man worked at the pizzeria. This little lie resulted in the government imposing a six-day jail in Adelaide.
The state of South Australia has decided to enter mandatory confinement for six days, starting Wednesday, after detecting 36 cases of covid-19, the first case records since April. The decision was made after a pizzeria employee associated with the outbreak lied to authorities and said he had only been at the location for a few minutes to shop for food. This information led health authorities to believe that they were dealing with a more infectious strain of the virus than is currently known and that more drastic measures should therefore be taken.
Turns out the man worked with a security guard, had two jobs, and was also infected. He contracted the virus at the Peppers Waymouth hotel, which is under quarantine because it is one of the outbreak sites, reveals the Sydney Morning Herald. After inquiries, authorities found that the employee and the guard were in close contact with another infected person. “We now know that they are in very close contact with someone else who was confirmed to be positive for covid-19. If this person had been honest with the detection teams, we would not have entered a six-day confinement,” explains the commissioner. Grant Stevens cop. He added that the worker will not suffer any legal action, since “lying is not associated with any sanction.”
Australia has relied on feedlots, widespread testing and contact detection to keep the number of infected people close to zero. At the moment, authorities are still identifying who may have had direct contact with the infected worker at the pizzeria.
“To say that I am furious is an absolute understatement. The selfish actions of this individual put our entire state in a very difficult situation. They affect companies, individuals, family groups and are totally unacceptable. We will analyze very carefully what the consequences will be,” He says. Prime Minister Steven Marshall.
The government has revealed that it will lift the lockdown on Saturday, three days ahead of schedule, since only three new cases were detected this Friday. In total, Australia has already registered around nine hundred deaths and twenty-eight thousand infections from the new coronavirus.
