The municipality of Leiria once again stands out today in the daily Civil Protection report on Covid-19. There are 33 more positive cases of contagion with the new coronavirus, bringing the total number of active cases in the municipality to 169.

Meanwhile, an outbreak was identified in a nursing home in the Unión de Freguesia de Colmeias e Memória, with several infected users and employees.

To the LEIRIA REGION, the president of the board, Artur Santos, confirms the existence of the outbreak, “there is no way to hide it,” he says, but he forwards the clarifications to the public health authorities of Leiria, who are monitoring the situation.

Despite not giving details, the mayor, through the municipality’s Facebook page, warns of the increase in cases in the parish and asks “the attention of the entire population, for the care that should be taken, recommended by the DGS” .

Speaking to Diário de Leiria, Odete Mendes, public health delegate, explained that on Sunday the first positive case was detected and since then, all the people of the institution have been permanently monitored, with “all the residents of the institution are infected but asymptomatic ”.

Since yesterday, 66 more cases have been registered in the Leiria region (Leiria district and Ourém municipality). At 33 in the municipality of Leiria there are seven more in Ourém, five in Marinha Grande, four in Batalha and Alcobaça, three in Nazaré and two in Porto de Mós.

With the new cases, the total number of people with active infection goes from 541 to 588, that is, 24.91% of the cases identified since the start of the pandemic in March are active.

Recoveries also increased in the last 24 hours, with Leiria being the municipality with the most people to overcome the disease, ten.

There are nine more recoveries, spread over the municipalities of Pombal (four), Batalha (two), Alcobaça (one), Marinha Grande (one) and Nazaré (one).

Of the 2,360 cases identified since the start of the pandemic, 1,720 have been recovered.

Portugal has 4,656 positive cases and 40 deaths

Portugal today registered a new maximum number of people hospitalized in Intensive Care Units (ICU) since the start of the covid-19 pandemic, with 275 people hospitalized, according to the General Directorate of Health (DGS), six more than yesterday.

The maximum value of hospitalizations in intensive care was registered on April 7, the day when 271 people were in these hospital units with covid-19.

The number of admissions to hospital units is 1,927, 93 more than on Thursday.

The number of new cases is also a new record: 4,656, of which 2,831 in the north of the country and 1,357 in the Lisbon region and the Tagus Valley.

There are still 40 deaths, a total of 2,468 since the start of the pandemic: 19 in the North, 13 in Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, three in the Center, three in the Alentejo and two in the Algarve.
