The League proposed to the Regional Health Directorate of the Azores that the Santa Clara-Gil Vicente meeting, of the third round of the 1st football league, have an attendance of 1,000 people, following the regional rules for covid-19 .

The proposal is contained in a letter dated September 25 and sent by the executive director of the League, Sónia Carneiro, to the regional director of Saúde dos Açores, Tiago Lopes, to which the Lusa agency had access today.

“The proposal that we saw transmitted to this Regional Directorate is the realization of the match of the third day of the League, at the São Miguel Stadium, starting at 3:00 p.m. on October 3, between the teams Santa Clara and Gil Vicente , before 700 people in the bank of the Azores and 300 in the central bank ”, the document reads.

The League affirms that the attendance of 1,000 people is defined based on the informative circular of the Regional Health Directorate itself, which authorizes the presence of a public in the sports venues of the archipelago up to 10% of the capacity of the spaces, using mask and distance. up to two meters between spectators.

The regional measure covers all competitions in different modalities and at different levels, with the exception of the Santa Clara senior team, because, according to the regional leadership, the Azores team must comply with the guidelines of the Portuguese Professional Football League and the General Directorate of Health.

In the letter, if the proposal is accepted, Sónia Carneiro assures that there will be “cumulative compliance with the norms provided” in the guidelines of the Regional Health Directorate for the presence of the public in the sports fields during the match between Azoreans and Gilistas.

The League suggests that the Azores be the “scene of a test for the return of the public to the stadiums” of professional football, highlighting the “good result of the experiences already carried out in amateur competitions in recent weeks” in the region, giving the example of the match between Fontinhas and Estrela da Amadora for the Portuguese Championship.

The body chaired by Pedro Proença points out that the “experimental nature” of the game allows “to recover the pedagogical role” of football with the fans, highlighting that Santa Clara has already made available to the “most outstanding athletes” to participate in the “promotion of socially appropriate behaviors “. “to prevent the spread of covid-19.

“We have already identified the moments leading up to the game, in the week before it, and the presentation of the teams on the pitch, before the kickoff, as moments of great impact, which can be capitalized on for this purpose. [da promoção das normas de segurança]”, highlights the League.

In the letter, the head of the professional football organization states that a “well thought out campaign” will give the Azores the opportunity to “participate decisively” in a “national impact” project that aims to contribute to “pushing back the number of cases “of covid. -19 enrolled in the Portuguese continent.

The League closes the letter considering the presence of Tiago Lopes in the match of the third day of the championship as “more useful”, to assess the “success not only of the measures implemented but also of the awareness campaign.”

Contacted by Lusa, an official source from Santa Clara confirmed that the club has not yet received a response from the Regional Health Directorate.

Next Thursday, the League scheduled a press conference, in Coimbra, to make a “status of the situation of covid-19 in professional football.”

The match between Santa Clara and Gil Vicente is scheduled for Saturday, at 3:00 p.m. local time (one hour less than on the mainland), at the São Miguel Stadium, in Ponta Delgada.
