“The Lisbon Labor Court declared the extinction of the SNMMP – National Union of Dangerous Materials Drivers. The court determined that both the constitution and the statutes of said union violate the legal precepts of the Labor Code,” reads a note published in Website of the Lisbon Region.

The court concluded that there are “non-conformities with mandatory legal provisions”, referring specifically to “the participation in the constituent assembly of at least one person who is not salaried, in the professional field indicated in the statutes.”

The decision responds to the request of the Public Ministry (MP) for the dissolution of the union, in an action initiated as a result of the Grounded Assessment on the legality of the Constitution and the Statutes of the SNMMP carried out by DGERT – General Directorate of Employment and Relations of the work.

The deputy argued that there were “non-conformities” in the constitution and statutes of the SNMMP, for which he requested its termination before the Labor Court of Lisbon, in a lawsuit filed in August 2019.

“From the analysis of the constitution process and the statutes of the aforementioned association, it was concluded that there are non-conformities with the mandatory legal precepts, that is, the participation in the constituent assembly of at least one person who is not an employee, in the field as a professional indicated in the statutes, ”explained, on the occasion, the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) in a written response sent to Lusa.

2019 was marked by two carrier strikes, in April and August, and the first took the country by surprise and ran out of fuel ‘stocks’ at various service stations.

Created at the end of 2018, the National Union of Hazardous Materials Drivers (SNMMP) became known with the strike that began on April 15, canceled on April 18, and another strike between August 12 and 18.

The SNMMP demanded a salary of 1,200 euros for professionals in the sector, a specific allowance of 240 euros and a reduction in the retirement age.

Lusa has been trying to contact union leaders, but so far no comment has been possible.
