The Secretary of State for Health reported at the press conference of the General Health Directorate, in which records were broken in the number of positive cases, deaths and hospitalizations, that the occupation of beds dedicated to Covid-19 is at the 80% range.

The total bed occupancy rate in rooms dedicated to covid 19 is 84%. The global bed occupancy rate in intensive care units is 81%, but the Secretary of State for Health stressed that “the current capacity of the service and the national health system will continue to expand as necessary.”

According to Diogo Serra Lopes, 96.6 percent of active cases are recovered at home, 2.9 percent in the ward and 0.5 percent in intensive care units.

“In the last seven days, we had a daily average of 3,546 new cases compared to 2,363 and 1,711 new cases in each of the previous two weeks,” he said. “These figures are clearly higher than those observed in March and April this year and naturally put additional pressure on the NHS, despite the preparation that has been carried out during these months.”
