The journalist Pedro Camacho, who directed the Directorate of Innovation and New Projects of the Lusa Agency, died this Saturday at the age of 59. Hospitalized five weeks ago for the new coronavirus, the journalist could not resist the complications of covid-19 aggravated by two infections caused by hospital bacteria.

Between 2015 and 2018, the journalist was director of the news agency, after being director of the magazine “Visão” and editor of Grupo Impresa for a decade, between 2005 and 2015.

Upon leaving Visão, the SIC and Expresso group thanked Pedro Camacho for his contribution, guided by “the high ethical and deontological standards of journalism” and his “personal effort and dedication and the impeccable manner with which he led the transition process” .

“The Executive Committee of Grupo Impresa appreciates the work carried out by the outgoing management, who, in difficult conditions, knew how to safeguard and reinforce the editorial quality of the Vision, which was unanimously recognized by its readers,” the group said at the time in a release.

Pedro Camacho was the brother of former SIC journalist Paulo Camacho and the son of Rui Camacho, former chief editor of ANOP, and Helena Marques, journalist and writer who died on October 20, at the age of 85, a victim of covid-19.
