This is one of the largest donations made to date to a university in Portugal -12 million euros- and was formalized this Thursday, December 10, by Vaso de Mello, president of the Mello group, and Isabel Capeloa Gil, dean of the Catholic University Portuguese, in the presence of the Cardinal Patriarch of Lisbon, D. Manuel Clemente.

The 12 million euros will go to the new campus of the Portuguese Catholic University in Lisbon, the ‘Campus Veritati’, which will be built north of Avenida Lusíada, with a connection to the current campus in Palma de Cima. The new building of the Catholic Lisbon School of Business & Economics will be renamed “Edifício José Manuel de Mello”.

The university complex will integrate the aforementioned building of the Catholic-Lisbon business school, one of the most prestigious in the country, regularly appearing in the main international rankings of the sector, as well as a multifunctional building, with a large auditorium, spaces for innovation and the Rectory of UPC. The new campus will not only provide the university with modern spaces that allow it to develop, but will also boost the growth of other schools at the Catholic University of Lisbon.

Our support aims to strengthen the role of university institutions in the training of qualified young people, who can contribute to the development of Portugal ”, said Vasco de Mello during the ceremony. It should be noted that the José de Mello Group and the José de Mello family have had a “very relevant role in supporting the UCP and the activities carried out by this university, both in granting scholarships and in supporting research.”

Isabel Capeloa Gil highlighted, in turn, the “great alignment between the José de Mello family and the UCP in the common purpose of contributing to the creation of value and affirming differentiating projects for the country, as is the case of Católica-Lisboa, quality CPU school and worldwide reference. “
