The pharmaceutical group Johnson & Johnson announced on Tuesday the discontinuation of clinical trials vaccine against Covid-19 because one of the participants got sick.
“We have temporarily stopped administering new doses in all of our clinical trials of an experimental vaccine against Covid-19, including the set of phase three trials, due to a disease yet to be explained in one of the participants “the group said in a statement.
The US pharmacist indicated that “the participant’s illness is being evaluated” by doctors and declined to give further details to “respect the privacy of this participant.”
“It is important to know all the data before giving more information”, added the company in the same statement.
On September 23, the US company announced the start of phase three trials, the last stage of development of a vaccine against Covid-19, whose official name is Ad26.COV2.S and was developed by the pharmaceutical company Janssen Pharmaceuticals. which is part of the Johnson & Johnson group.
Phases one and two of the trials began in July, in the United States and Belgium.
The Covid-19 pandemic has already claimed more than one million seventy-seven thousand deaths and more than 37.5 million cases of contagion worldwide, according to a report prepared by the French agency AFP.
After Europe succeeded China as the center of the pandemic in February, the American continent is now the one with the most confirmed cases and the most deaths.
