What is needed is to take advantage of all the instruments so that workers and people do not see their lives plunged into a daily crisis ”, he defended.
In an intervention very focused on workers, at a time when a deep economic crisis is approaching, and for the self-esteem of the party itself, the Secretary General assumed that “the policies that are being advanced or are underway do not respond to problems of the present, nor problems of the future of the country ”and this is evidenced in the so-called Economic and Social Stabilization Program and also in the Government’s Supplementary Budget proposal that supported it. Among the “many initiatives” that the PCP has in preparation, the Secretary General highlighted the fight for the “increase in the National Minimum Wage to 850 euros; the creation of a remuneration supplement for workers in essential and permanent services; for the benefit of unhealthy jobs, hardships and risks; compensatory remuneration and recognition of social protection for shift workers and night work; expanding access to unemployment benefits and strengthening their amount and duration ”.
Regarding the State Budgets for 2021, the PCP leader considers that he has to “respond to the most immediate, urgent and urgent problems.” “We must help those who have lost income with extraordinary support to guarantee living conditions, those who are at risk from their activity, in particular by supporting micro and small businesses.” It also has to “provide the SNS with all the means to guarantee the provision and health care (…) and stop the delivery of public money that the SNS needs for private groups that deal with the disease.”
On the other hand, he also left the guarantee that the PCP will commit itself to “solutions to regain public control of strategic companies, starting with CTT, Novo Banco and TAP, which are fundamental for the sovereign development of the country.”
The party participants applauded the option of this party, but reacted with whistles when the spokesman mentioned the name of the President of the Republic. “The PS’s declarations that it wants nothing to do with the PSD are of little use if the options it adopts (…) are those that the PSD would adopt without breaking with guidelines and commitments that have sustained right-wing politics. Even more so when the convergences between the two parties continue to be registered in relevant matters, part of a process of reorganization of forces launched, and in which the current President of the Republic is inserted, to whiten the PSD with a view to its political rehabilitation and more intense cooperation with the PS, indispensable for right-wing politics, ”declared Jerónimo de Sousa.
