The Disney movie ‘Soul’ has been talking about Portugal. In the original version, the animated feature film features a black protagonist and the voice of actors blacks, however, in Portugal the dubbing was done by actors white, among them Jorge Mourato, which voices the main character.

In this sense, a petition was created to redo the dubbing of the film. Iva Domingues reacted to the petition claiming that one of the premises of the film is precisely to have black actors.

Outraged by the current dubbing of ‘Soul’, Iva Domingues shared a text on social networks where she exposed the controversy. “A petition was created to redo the dubbing of the SOUL movie. Much has been written in the networks, about the need to respect the purpose for which the film was made and for black actors to give voice to the characters. Of course yes! Of course, they have to be black actors, that is one of the premises of the film ”., I started writing.

“But many people think that no, that there is no harm, that there are not so many black actors in Portugal and that one voice is only one voice. These people were the same people who were outraged when Disney decided to make Ariel (the little mermaid) black, in the new version of the film! “Unacceptable. What do you mean by a black mermaid, how is it possible?” Ask the same people who say there is no racism, and that we are all exaggerating … I just want to remind you that mermaids do not exist. So when representing mermaids, we could even use all the colors of the rainbow that would be fine. “, finished.
