Italy has registered 19,644 new cases of infection and 151 deaths from covid-19 in the last 24 hours, having reached a total of half a million cases since the start of the pandemic.

Data from the Italian Ministry of Health also reveals that fewer tests were carried out than on Friday. Infections continue to rise as does the number of deaths.

177,000 tests were carried out while Italian authorities reported on Friday that 182,000 tests had been carried out.

Italy has registered 504,509 cases since the emergency began on February 21 and 37,210 deaths.

Also worrying is the increase in the number of hospitalizations, which are already 12,415 throughout the country, from 817 compared to Friday.

As for intensive care, data from the Italian health authorities show that there are 1,128 people in these units, 79 more than on Friday.

The region with the most cases was Lombardia again, which detected 4,951 new positives, followed by Veneto with 1729 and Campania with 1718.

Faced with the alarming increase in coronavirus infections, Italian regions have tightened their measures and Lombardy, Lazio, Calabria and Campania have already ordered a curfew between midnight and five in the morning.

The President of the Italian Government, Giuseppe Conte, today called a meeting with the ministers and representatives of government parties to study the possibility of enacting new measures after the increase in infections.

According to the Italian press, among the issues being discussed, is the new tightening in the closing hours of public places and especially of restaurants. The possibility of closing at 8pm or even 6pm will be discussed.

In addition, during this meeting, the episodes of violence that occurred last night in Naples due to the application of the curfew will be addressed from 11 p.m. on Friday.
