The Health official believes that in the decision to open schools, in addition to Easter, the Government fears the best possible balance in mind, although many criticize it.

Marta Temido recalls that despite the decrease in contagion cases and the number of fatalities, the situation is still far from ideal.

The Minister of Health underlines that Portugal still faces a significant risk of hospitalizations, especially at the level of Intensive Care Units.

Marta Temido says that the contact surveillance system was under a lot of pressure and says that in recent weeks we have pushed our system to the limit in many areas.

In this interview conducted by journalist Frederico Moreno, Minister Marta Temido guaranteed that Portugal does not have a problem of lack of vaccines.

The general problem is the lack of industrial production capacity for vaccines against Covid-19.

69% of the maximum level of confinement

According to available data, April 15 last year was the climax of the maximum lockdown, when more people stayed home.

The minister reveals that we are now 69% of that amount, when a few weeks ago we reached 75%, that is, with more people staying home to contain the spread of infections.

The minister warns, however, that this latest effort is the most difficult for the Portuguese, recalling the data from June and July last year, which led Portugal to be subject to some restrictions, having been taken out of the green corridors.

“What we have from our experience is that this final part has been difficult for us to download. This final effort is very important ”, he guarantees.

The minister guarantees that Portugal is in a position to start with massive tests in certain areas, when it is time to return to “normality”.
