“It is an outright falsehood”

Yesterday ANACOM accused companies linked to the sale of Internet, TV and telephone services of lowering the quality of services and raising prices. Customers didn’t like it, but companies are reacting.

After NOS claimed that the news did not correspond to the truth, Altice Portugal also left a statement clarifying the situation and accusing ANACOM of not telling the truth.

Altice Portugal denies the price increase:

MEO, NOS and Vodafone raise prices and reduce the quality of services, this is what we wrote yesterday after a communication sent to Pplware by ANACOM. In the text it can be read that between October and November 2020, the three main electronic communications providers in Portugal (MEO, NOS and Vodafone), increased the monthly rates of their "triple play" base offers by 3.3% ( +1 euro).

Furthermore, it was suggested that the price increase occurs at the same time and in the same proportion, being much higher than the inflation rate. Since 2018, there have been no differences in the monthly rates for this type of offer, being offers even more unfavorable compared to the international average.

Altice Portugal, like NOS, has already expressed its opinion on these statements. The MEO company comes to say that everything is just a falsehood and accuses ANACOM of not fulfilling its role as regulator, that "for 3 years it has not carried out any market or price study, but uses data completely foreign to the sector" .

Altice Portugal announcement:

Altice Portugal for reasons of seriousness and defense of its good name, as well as of the telecommunications sector in Portugal, is forced, once again, to react to a new communication from ANACOM due to the seriousness it confers.

    Thus, Altice Portugal clarifies:

ANACOM's statement about the increase in prices to its customers is nothing more than outright falsehood.

In no way can it be verified that there has been any decrease in the quality of the service in the offer that the company has in the market.

The conditions mentioned by ANACOM do not apply to current clients.

We reiterate that Portugal is one of the countries of the European Union in which telecommunications packages are the most attractive, as mentioned in the IDES study, published by the European Commission.

We regret that, once again, based on the lack of evidence, the Sectorial Regulator tries to manipulate the country with unfounded statements that only seek to denigrate the image of this company that invests hundreds of millions of euros a year in our country and employs around 20 thousand people.

For about 3 years, ANACOM has not carried out market or price studies, but using data completely unrelated to the sector.

Thus, having ANACOM, for three years, insisting on affirming and defending thesis without any study or official evidence, credible and homologated by base, Altice Portugal launches the challenge so that for the first time it demonstrates what the study or evidence on which it bases their statements, similar to the practice of other entities, national and international, that have been publicly criticizing the regulation and the regulator in Portugal, with concrete and published studies or market analysis, of an economic nature. financial.

We also regret that under the current leadership of Anacom, Portugal, which has always been at the forefront in the development and implementation of new fixed and mobile communications networks, is today at the forefront of Europe, compromising the country's competitiveness, refers to the launch of the new 5G technology, while another 17 countries of the European Community have already launched their networks.
