Gunmen from a group linked to the Islamic State beheaded more than 50 people in northern Mozambique between Friday and Sunday. It was the worst attack carried out by an Islamic group in Mozambique of which there is memory, advances the BBC.

On November 6, the terrorist group attacked the Nanjaba village, in the province of Cabo Delgado, shooting at several inhabitants and setting fire to several houses. Immediately, two people were beheaded and several women raped. The attackers shouted “Allahu Akbar” (Allah is great) before firing.

Then, the jihadists invaded the town of Muatide, the offensive reached levels never seen before: the terrorists transformed a soccer field nearby in an extermination camp. Those who tried to escape were transported there and beheaded, the rest of the bodies are kept in place, to which the BBC advances, citing Pinnacle News. More than 50 people were killed.

It is not the first time that groups affiliated with the Islamic State have attacked areas of Mozambique and southern Africa by surprise and, in addition to leaving a trail of destruction wherever they go, they try to recruit young people to increase Islamic influence in the area.

The Mozambican government has already requested international assistance to help curb this terrorism. More than 2,000 people have already been killed by jihadist groups and around 430,000 have been made homeless in Mozambique.due to the attacks, says the BBC.

In April, another such attack killed 50 more people and earlier this month nine people were also beheaded in Cabo Delgado province.
