This Saturday Sporting published a photo of Essugo as a child with João Mário, to mark the young midfielder’s debut with the main team.
Dário Essugo will not soon forget Saturday’s game against Vitória de Guimarães, which Sporting won 1-0. The young midfielder replaced João Mário, in the 84th minute, and thus became the youngest player to play in the Lions’ main team, at just 16 years and six days. After the final whistle, Essugo could not contain the tears in the Alvalade field.
Now, to commemorate this achievement, Sporting published a photograph of Essugo with João Mário, when the youngest midfielder was still a child. “The young man who plays with his idols today,” wrote the lions.
João Mário was also not indifferent at the time and reacted to Essugo’s debut: “Follow your dreams. Congratulations boy,” he posted on Twitter.
Shortly after, the Portuguese international took care not to cause “jealousy” among the youngest of the Leonese squad and also recalled a special moment with Tiago Tomás.
