As of this Thursday, the call center workers carry out a two-day strike, called by the sector’s own union.
The workers mainly demand the general increase in wages, the recognition of the profession, the promotion of collective bargaining in all sectors of activity, direct hiring and the end of false temporary work.
The strike runs from 00:00 hours this Thursday until midnight on December 25, repeating on December 31 and January 1, 2021.
The Call Center Workers Union had already been on strike last week, on December 15th. These workers organized two protest concentrations, in Loures and Coimbra.
Above all, they protested the lack of respect by employers for compulsory teleworking, especially in municipalities with the highest risk of pandemic.
Also in March, call center workers lobbied for an immediate end to calls until companies guaranteed telecommuting.
For this reason, the Union called a strike at the time to demand this work regime for all professionals.
