As DIÁRIO reported in its print edition this Tuesday, Machico registered 46 new cases of covid-19 in a single week.
Due to this situation, the authorities are forced to reinforce preventive measures.
The coordinator of the Municipal Civil Protection Service of Machico, Márcio Gouveia, spoke with DIÁRIO, confirming that the measures will be toughened.
That is, there will be no more sensitization action to have a more muscular action by the PSP and GNR agents, each with perfectly defined areas.
GNR will pay particular attention to the bars of Santo da Serra, Porto da Cruz and Água de Pena, while PSP will take a closer look at Caniçal and Machico.
All because the municipal authorities are witnessing an escalation of active cases of covid19 in Machico, for which, they emphasize, there is no more awareness.
Meanwhile, on Facebook, the Municipal Civil Protection Service left a message to the population:
Given the recent developments in the municipal territory, in relation to the increase in cases of COVID-19, it was decided together with the Health Authorities, Safety and Rescue Authorities, within the scope of the different competences, to reinforce the following measures to be implemented immediately throughout the Municipal territory:

- 1- Reinforcement of inspection by security entities (PSP, GNR, ARAE) in the parishes of Machico, Água de Pena, Caniçal, Porto da Cruz and Santo da Serra, in local commercial establishments, with special emphasis on ensure the maximum capacity of authorized persons, as well as the use of personal protective equipment for each citizen;
- 2- Strengthen inspection in public spaces with special attention to crowding of people and the non-use of personal protective equipment;
- 3- Closure of the Água de Pena Sports Complex, after the establishment closes at 0.00h;
- 4- The security bodies with oversight responsibility (PSP, GNR, ARAE) will act in strict compliance with the law, applying the fines provided in current regulations, whether they are companies or citizens in general.
These measures aim to achieve the desired results in the fight against the Pandemic, but which unfortunately and only through awareness was not possible to obtain, and there was resistance in compliance with the COVID-19 standards.
